About Snickers
Snickers is a delicious candy bar consisting of nuts, nougats, and caramel covered with milk chocolate. This chocolate brand managed to spread its business wings across the globe. Snickers is available in more than 50 different countries in the world. Though most people only know the milk chocolate variant, Snickers actually has other variants.
Those chocolate variants are Snickers Charged, Snickers Marathon Energy Bar, Snickers Almond, and Snickers Dark. Marketed as an energy bar to ‘delay’ hunger, this popular chocolate brand promotes its products mostly through advertising. In England, Rowan Atkinson, or more known as Mr. Bean had once starred in the brand’s commercial.
In the United States, where the brand is from, Snickers launched a Super Bowl commercial starring Betty White in 2010. The commercial successfully topped the USA Today’s Super Bowl Ad Meter. Thanks to that, Snickers managed to gain $28,6 million within 91 days, which was 11 times the company’s initial investment.
With its tagline of You’re Not You When You’re Hungry, Snickers also widens its ideas to the real world in multiple creative ways. For example, the company created a campaign encouraging its customers to give the ‘hungry bar’ to those suffering from various types of hunger disorders. This campaign got positive responses from communities.
The History of Snickers
Snickers was first launched in 1930, nearly a decade after the launch of the founder, Frank Mars’ first candy bar named Milky Way. Mars developed the Milky Way as the snack version of the chocolate drink popular at the beginning of the 20th century. Frank and Ethel Mars named Snickers after their horse.
One Snickers was priced 5 cents at that time. In 1949, Snickers became the official sponsor of The Howdy Doody Show. This popular chocolate brand is always in the frontline when it comes to advertising. One of the Snickers commercials was based on a new language called Snacklish, involving linguistic puns that appeared on Snickers labels.
For example, the ad shown in a NYC taxi that read Snaxi. As the world’s most popular chocolate, Snickers has an annual profit of $2 billion.
